A WW1 Royal Navy Medal Trio (survived the sinking of R.M.S. Otway) & WW2 Special Constabulary Medal Group to M.12613 WR2 R.J. Harlow.

Reginald Jesse Harlow was born on 16.02.1897 at Luton, Bedfordshire. He joined the ranks of the Royal Navy on 30.01.1915, and first served at the land base Pembroke I, and then aboard the armed merchant cruiser R.M.S. Otway.

He was serving aboard Otway on the 23rd of July 1915, when she was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine UC-49, with the loss of 10 lives. Reginald’s service records show him as serving aboard Otway throught to 04.08.1917!?

The 1939 Census lists Reginald as ‘No 5206 S.Sgt City of London Special Constabulary’ and a Bank Clerk.

The medals are mounted for wear, sold with matching miniatures (Special Constabulary Long Service clasp dated 1947) and chest ribbon bar, copies research, and are as follows -

Reginald is NOT entitled to a Long Service & Good Conduct Medal having left the Royal Navy on 05.06.1919
