An Unusual WW1 Mercantile Marine & WW2 Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve medal pair awarded to Temp 1st Officer & later Squadron Leader R.C.B. Swaine.
Robert Cecil Bishop Swaine was born on the 7th June 1900 at Chelsea, South West London. During WW1, he joined the Merchant Navy where he was to serve as a Temporary 1st Officer.
The 1939 Census has him listed as a BBC Radio Engineer, and he later joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve as a Pilot Officer (on Probation), in the Technical Branch - London Gazette 26th November 1940 refers. Robert Swaine remained with the Technical Branch for the duration of the War, resigning his commission on the 22nd May 1945, retaining the rank of Squadron Leader - London Gazette 12th June 1945 refers. He will have a WW2 medal entitlement.
Robert Swaine died during October 1975, on the Isle of Wight.
