Philip was born on the 10th June 1899, and served with the 18th Battalion, the Lancashire Fusiliers, during WW1, earning the British War & Victory Medals (not included).
The Defence Medal would appear to have been awarded for his services to the Essex Traffic Association during WW2. He passed away during October 1962 at Thurrock, Essex.
The medal is on an original length of ribbon, sold with some copied research, named O.H.M.S. medal box of issue, and is as follows -
