Walter Everett Trickey was born at Taunton Deane, Somerset on 22 September 1904, the son of Sydney and Louisa Trickey. Enlisting as an Officer's Steward Class IV on 12 October 1926 he was posted to the minesweeper Carstairs on 19 May 1928. Remaining with her for some time he was advanced Steward with her on 1 October 1931.

Transferring to
Eclipse he was ashore on the outbreak of the Second World War and was soon posted to the Aircraft Carrier Illustrious in April 1940. Still with her later in the year, Trickey would no doubt have served during the Battle of Taranto which saw a British airstrike launched from Illustrious cripple the Italian fleet at anchor.

Continuing to serve he went ashore in February 1941 and was issued his L.S. & G.C. whilst stationed at H.M.S.
Nile, the naval station in Egypt. Posted to the carrier Indomitable in February 1942, he was with her during the invasion of Vichy Madagascar. Returning to Illustrious in August that same year he was moved onto the submarine depot ship Forth in October 1942, being advanced Leading Steward with her the next year.

Invalided from service in December 1942 he settled back in Somerset and died at Wellington, Somerset on 16 August 1990.
