A WW1 / WW2 Army and Royal Navy/Merchant Navy Medal Group to 8801 Pte George Cooper, 1st Bn the King’s Liverpool Regiment & Royal Navy/Merchant Navy.
George Cooper joined the ranks of the King’s Liverpool Regiment, serving with the 1st Battalion. They disembarked Le Havre, France, on the 12th of August 1914, having sailed aboard the S.S. Irrawwady from Southampton under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel W.S. Bannatyne. The Battalions first big action of the War was at the 1st Battle of Ypres on the 20th of October 1914, where they were engaged in very heavy fighting at Polygon Wood.
At some point Pte Cooper transfered to the Royal Engineers, where he served with the 21st Signal Company, and he was promoted to Lance Corporal on the 23rd of July 1917.
Either inbetween Wars, or during WW2, it appears that George Cooper joined the ranks of either the Royal Navy or the Merchant Navy, which was quite common for former WW1 Royal Engineer vererans.
