A WW1 Wounded in Action (G.S.W. to Head & Shoulder) '3rd Battle of Ypres' (Battle of Poelcapelle) Military Medal & Pair to 276905 L/Cpl P. O'Reilly, 2/7th Manchester Regiment.
Peter O’Reilly was born during 1894 at Manchester, and worked as a warehouseman prior to enlising into the Manchester Regiment on the 7th December 1915.
He served on the Western Front with the 2/7th battalion, the Manchester Regiment, from the 6th March 1917, and was wounded in action on the 9th October 1917, most probably during the Battle of Poelcapelle. He suffered a gun shot wound to the head and shoulder - it is not clear from the copied research if the two wounds were received at the same time, or two seperate actions. Peter was to be medically discharged on the 22nd October 1917 due to his injuries.
It was during this action that Peter was awarded the Military Medal. This was one of 11 M.M.’s, 1 D.C.M., & 3 M.C’s awarded for the actions, and the 2/7th suffered 110 O/R’s wounded, 37 O/R’s missing, and 42 killed during October 1917. The award of his Military Medal is listed in the War Diary dated 31st October 1917.
