A Single Victorian 1895-1902 India Medal, clasps PUNJAB FRONTIER 1897-98, TIRAH 1897-98, awarded to 3708 Pte Alfred John Gray, 1st Bn Gordon Highlanders.

Alfred John Gray was originally from Southwark, London, and attested on the 13th of February 1891, joining the ranks of the Gordon Highlanders.

Alfred served with the 1st Battalion the Gordon Highlanders in the East Indies (India) between the 27th January 1893 and the 18th of October 1899. The battalion were involved in the various actions of the Tirah campaign, most notably the storming of the Dargai Heights (20th October 1897) where Piper Findlater was to be awarded the Victoria Cross for valour. The battalion suffred significant casualties.

The medal is mounted on a short piece of original ribbon, sold with copied research (including service papers and medal roll - both clasps confirmed), and is as follows -
