A WW2 South African, North Africa Campaign 'Mersa Matruh', Casualty Medal Group awarded to 255414 Sapper Isaac George Cohen, 4th Field Company, South Africa Engineer Corps.
Isaac George Christian Cohen was born during 1912, at Somerset West, Cape Province, South Africa.
During WW2 he joined the ranks of the South African Engineer Corps, serving in Egypt with the 4th Field Company, and was either killed in action, or most likely died of wounds, on the 26th of October 1941, whilst serving at Mersa Matruh. Several original newspaperclipings refer to both Issac being K.I.A and D.O.W.
His medal group is accompanied by an original photo album which contains circa 52 monocrome photographs of his military service in Egypt, which was believed to have been about 11 months, prior to his death. The photographs include several images of a uniformed Isaac, his work with the engineers in Egypt, and images of his original named grave cross.
Isaac Cohen is now buried at the El Alamein War Cemetery.
A very poignant medal group to a casualty.
The medals are mounted for display, sold with some copied research, several original military named/addressed documents (mostly to his Widow), newspaper clippings, photograph album, and are as follows -
