A WW1 'Western Front' M.S.M. & medal pair awarded to 190374/258545 Sgt A.C. Walker, 8th Railway Company, Royal Engineers.
Arthur Charles Walker was born on the 27th December 1882, at Brinkworth, Wiltshire.
Prior to enlisting into the ranks of the Royal Engineers on the 17th of January 1916, Arthur was employed as a Plate Layer for Great Western Railways.
He joined the 8th Railway Company on the 31st of January 1916, serving on the Western Front, and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal ‘in recognition of valuable services rendered with the Armies in France & Flanders’ - London Gazette 3rd of June 1919 refers.
Arthur spent several periods of time in hospital between Febraury 1917 and December 1918 being treated for the effects of Pyorrhea (severe gum disease), and was eventually demobalised on the 22nd of February, 1919, returning to work as a Plate Layer for the Great Western Railway.
Arthur Charles Walker passed away on the 12th of April 1982, at Whooton Bassett, Wiltshire.
