A WW1 1914 Mons Star medal trio group awarded to 20664 Gnr. W. Evans., 35th Heavy Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery.
William James Evans was born during 1886, and enlisted on the 12 November 1904, joining the ranks of the Royal Garrison Artillery.
He served on the Western Front during WW1, and he disembarked France on the 16th August 1914, with the 35th Heavy Battery.
The 35th Heavy Battery were part of the British Expeditionary Force and the 2nd Division, and they were amongst the first troops to arrive on the Western Front, seeing action during the Battle of Mons, the sunsequent retreat, the Battle of Marne, the Battle of Aisne, and the 1st Battle of Ypres.
Gnr Evans was hospitalised on the 15th February 1916, for 5 days, suffering from the effects of Influenza. He was discharged on the 11th July 1917, due to sickness. He is entitled to Silver War Badge No. 205260.
