An Unusual WW1, WW2, & Post War Special Constabulary and Civil Defence Corps Long Service Medal Group awarded to 60683 Pte W.C. Harris, Bedforshire Regiment, British Red Cross & Civil Defence Corps.
William Charles Harris was born on the 15th July 1899, at Willesborough, Kent.
His Medal Index Card shows he disembarked France on the 8th February, 1915, serving as a hospital orderly with the British Red Cross Society. However, his B.R.C.S. card shows his date of engagement with them as being October 1915 through to July 1917. At some point William served with the Bedfordshire Regiment (60683), and then the Labour Corps (620011).
Post WW1, William returned to life in Canterbury, Kent, where he worked as Coach Body Builder, Heavy Worker. He was also a member of the Canterbury Special Constabulary (1939 Census refers) and the Civil Defence Corps.
The medals are mounted for display, sold with copied research, original Civil Defence Long Service Medal case of issue, and are as follows -
